A Narrow Way

Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.

Psalm 107:1

The Lord invites us each to follow Him. The scripture says to taste and see that the Lord is good. Jesus desires to come in and feast with you and me. He blesses us daily with many good things, but many miss it. Oh, that we would remember and give thanks to the Lord.

He loads us daily with benefits. He has a path for me to follow, a perfect path. I desire to follow it and learn to see His daily blessings and faithfulness. He invites everyone, but many miss it. Most stay on the broad super highway, which you can read more about here. There are many reasons we remain on the broad path, and here are a few: It’s easy, the fear of what others might think, desires for wrong things, it’s easier to go with the flow, we are lazy, and so on.

I have sometimes missed the narrow path for many reasons, if not all the ones I’ve mentioned. We all have. We are all broken and need to be rescued. We like the idea of being a self-built man or woman. Yet, in time, we see our cracks and weaknesses and try hard to be something we aren’t. We don’t want others to see our brokenness and nakedness. We are afraid to be who we are and hide behind a shell. We portray an image we want others to see, but inside, we cry out, thirsting to be seen and heard.

We become the person others have named us as, even if that name is destructive to us. Deep inside, we knew we were killing something in us. But there is good news. We don’t have to stay the same. That is what the hope of the good news is. The name Immanuel means God with us. Jesus came to all of us. He came to call us to a new Kingdom and a new way of life. Jesus came to make a way and give us the way of life. He gave himself. Jesus came from the very heart of God. He is the light of life. Everything we see and enjoy was made through Him.

I’ve responded to that invite. The goodness and kindness of God. The invite says, “Taste and see that the Lord is good.” He says come, and that invite extends to all thirsty and hungry, to all who think their light is flickering out, to all that feel broken, and to whoever may feel dead and just going through the motions day by day. He invites people like that and invites them on a small and narrow path. A path of peace and a way that leads to a future and hope. He gives us the power to live a new life. We were dead, but He made us alive in Christ.

Come all who thirst and follow Him.

Other verses to reflect on:

Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.

Isaiah 7:14

Ho! Everyone who thirsts, Come to the waters; And you who have no money, Come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk Without money and without price.

Isaiah 55:1
